The Corpus Christi Police Department on Monday issued a warrant  for the arrest of 27-year-old Nola Morales, who is wanted for theft and evading arrest. Officers have yet to arrest Morales, who lives in Alice, Texas.

Cops say Morales was holding a bag when confronted outside Academy Sports & Outdoors on Wednesday afternoon. A store official gave chase, and so did cops, who happened to be at the scene investigating an unrelated accident.

The alleged shoplifter got away, but authorities believe they know who she is.

“One of the suspects took off running out of the store,” Lt. Robert Alvarado of the Corpus Christi Police Department told the station. “The loss prevention officers were pointing to her, so one of the officers gave chase. As she got toward the freeway and show[ed] her intentions of crossing the freeway on foot, the officer disengaged his foot pursuit so he or she wouldn’t get hurt.”

The woman may have been spooked by cops, who were at the scene on another matter.
