A 16-year-old exchange student from China was slashed in the face and neck as she walked to school in Queens Wednesday morning, police said.
Her attacker was wearing surgical gloves and a surgical mask, police said.
“It came out of nowhere,” Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said of the attack. “It’s very disturbing.”
The victim, who had left her home moments earlier, was rushed to Long Island Jewish Medical Center and is expected to recover.
The suspect, a white man wearing a blue sweat suit in addition to the surgical gloves and mask, fled the scene, cops said.
Police are reviewing surveillance video that may have captured the 9:35 a.m. attack, which happened at on 147th St. near 13th Ave. in Whitestone.
The apparent weapon, a box cutter, was recovered at the scene, sources said.
