HGTV star Tarek El Moussa feared the worst four years ago after receiving his second cancer diagnosis in as many months.
“No joke, I thought I was going to die,” El Moussa told Us Weekly. “I was like, ‘Two cancers?'”
The 36-year-old El Moussa — who stars on the popular home improvement series “Flip or Flop” with his ex-wife Christina — learned he had thyroid cancer in 2013 after a nurse who was watched his show spotted a lump on his neck and urged him to see a doctor.
A month later, doctors diagnosed him with testicular cancer — which El Moussa kept private until earlier his year.
He credits his former wife with helping him get through his battles with the diseases, and he is now cancer free.
“My doctor told me there is a 30% recurrence rate, so that is something that’s always there,” he told Us Weekly.
Tarek El Moussa (l.) and Christina El Moussa continue to co-star on “Flip or Flop” after separating.
The El Moussas have continued to star on “Flip or Flop” together since they announced their separation in December 2016.
Their split came with considerable drama, however, as it occurred several months after police were called to their home after someone reported a man with a gun. Tarek later confirmed he was the man with the weapon, but asserts he was carrying it to protect himself from animals as he went for a walk.
He and Christina, 34, have two kids together: daughter Taylor, 7, and son Braden, 2.
