A suspected bank robber was shot to death by an FBI agent and a Yonkers police detective on Friday night, according to a report.
The law enforcement duo tried to pull over the suspected robber near a street corner just north of the Bronx-bordering Van Cortland Park, police sources told WNBC.
Both the agent and the detective opened fire after spotting a weapon in the suspect’s hand, according to the sources.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be saved. A weapon believed to be the suspect’s was recovered at the scene, officials said.
The law enforcement duo was conducting an investigation near Van Cortland Park when they encountered the suspect.
Yonkers officials directed all requests for comment to the FBI. A bureau spokesman declined to comment when reached by the Daily News.
The Yonkers Police Department tweeted that it “wants to assure our residents that there is no threat to public safety.”
