One person died in a major pileup that shut down a stretch of the New York State Thruway just outside of Buffalo Tuesday.
Another 11 people were transported to area hospitals, according to state police, WIVB-TV reported.
Roughly 75 vehicles were piled up between the Depew and Pembroke exits.
Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said motorists were trapped in their vehicles.
He estimated that about 25 vehicles were directly involved in the accident.

A witness travelling in the other direction posted a video on Twitter showing cars backed up for about three-quarters of a mile in the Thruway’s east bound lanes.
A blizzard warning is in effect for northern Erie County until 1 a.m. Wednesday.
At least three flights to Buffalo Tuesday were diverted to other airports.
