The teen son of syndicated radio star Delilah committed suicide after a long battle with depression.
The self-proclaimed “Queen of Sappy Love Songs” posted a somber note to Facebook saying her son, Zachariah, died on Tuesday.
“He was being treated, counseled, and embraced fiercely by family and friends while battling depression for some time now,” Delilah Rene, 58, wrote Saturday to her legion of over 1.5 million fans. “My heart is broken beyond repair and I can not fathom how to go on.”
Zack was one of the host’s 13 children — 10 of whom are adopted. Delilah’s son Sammy died in 2012 due to complications from sickle cell anemia, just two years after she adopted him from a Ghanaian refugee camp in West Africa.
Radio shot host Delilah Rene said Saturday that her son, Zack, had taken his own life.
Delilah said in a January Facebook post that Zack was autistic.
She plans on taking a leave of absence from playing love songs and helping listeners through romance and heartbreak on the syndicated program, which airs weeknights on 106.7 FM in New York City.
“Please pray for my beloved Zacky, and I will pray for all suffering from this debilitating disease called depression,” she added, sharing a photo of the 1-800-273-8255 digits to reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
