The publicist who says Oscar winner Paul Haggis raped her in his SoHo apartment wants the “Million Dollar Baby” screenwriter sanctioned for suing her.
“His case is a rapist’s attempt to silence and intimidate his victim,” lawyers for accuser Haleigh Breest wrote in new paperwork filed Monday in Manhattan.
“This case should be swiftly dismissed and Haggis should be sanctioned by the court,” the dismissal and sanctions motion paperwork states. “This case is frivolous because it was filed to harass or maliciously injure Ms. Breest.”
The lawsuit filed by Haggis accuses Breest of intentional infliction of emotional distress. It claims she tried to shake him down for a $ 9 million payday by threatening to go public with her allegations.
“The clear goal of (Breest’s) demand for such an absurd amount of money from (Haggis) is to scare him into giving this windfall to her to avoid his public hanging,” the lawsuit filed by Haggis on Dec. 15 states.
Breest’s camp insists the Haggis claim was retaliation for her attempt to resolve the matter with pre-litigation settlement discussions.
Breest filed a dueling complaint Dec. 15 alleging Haggis raped and sexually assaulted her in January 2013 after a movie premiere on the Upper West Side.
The lawsuit filed by Haggis accuses Haleigh Breest (pictured) of intentional infliction of emotional distress. It claims she tried to shake him down for a $ 9 million payday by threatening to go public with her allegations.
She claims the “Crash” writer and director insisted she join him for a drink and began kissing her aggressively once they were alone in his apartment.
Breest claims Haggis forced himself on her and raped her.
The court has yet to rule on either case.
After Breest filed her claim, three more women stepped forward with separate claims of sexual misconduct against Haggis.
One was another publicist who says Haggis raped her after forcing her to perform oral sex.
In their new filing, Breest’s lawyers panned the Haggis lawsuit as “a scare tactic designed to intimidate Ms. Breest and the other women who have now alleged that Haggis also raped and sexually assaulted them.”
