Ohio doctor slain in parking lot shared love interest with gunman

The Ohio doctor gunned down in a hospital parking lot in a suspected murder-suicide shared a mutual love interest with the gunman, according to police.

Dr. George Seese, 59, was leaving Affinity Medical Center when he was confronted by 50-year-old Michael Wood near his black Denali just after 2 p.m. Monday, authorities told WKYC.

Dr. George Seese was shot and killed by Michael Wood in a murder-suicide in Massillion, Ohio, Nov. 13, 2017.

Police said the gunman’s vehicle was parked next to the doctor’s car.

“The shooter comes around from that white Jeep back there and comes forward and fires,” according to Massillon Police Chief Keith Moser.

Authorities said the gunman shot Seese, a father of 13, up to five times before turning the weapon on himself. Both men were rushed inside the hospital where they were later pronounced dead, according to the news station.

Seese, referred to as “Skip” by those who knew him, was a practicing cardiologist in Northeast Ohio since 1992, according to Fox 8. Police noted he was affiliated with the Massillon medical center where the shooting occurred but that his practice was in Perry Township.

Seese was one of six doctors at Stark Medical Specialties, which has three locations across Northeast Ohio.

Area schools and the hospital were temporarily placed on lockdown as authorities worked to determine the motive in the case.

“It appears at this time that he targeted the doctor specifically,” Moser said.
