New condom and lubricant holders were released Friday by the city’s Department of Health.
The city is aiming to make contraception cool this Valentine’s Day.
It launched a new sleek new condom container known as the #PlaySure kit on Friday — just in time for the romantic weekend.
The black kit carries condoms, and lubricant for those who want to get frisky.
It’s also packed with some protective pills that will help ward off the HIV virus.
The Department of Health says the #PlaySure kit will help shut down the AIDS epidemic.
New York City’s Health Commissioner Mary Bassett displays the new condom containers.
But the pre-holiday push is also an attempt to get more New Yorkers interested in free safe sex products.
“Condoms remain a mainstay of HIV prevention,” said Health Commissioner Mary Bassett Friday, as she displayed the latest version of free city rubbers.
“The fact that this beautiful design represents is that we want to layer our prevention strategy,” Bassett added. “You can do that right in this kit.”
People will be able to tailor their kit to their needs.
For those who are HIV-free, there are prophylactic pills to prevent infection.
The #PlaySure kit can come with condoms, lubricant and protective pills.
Other pills are designed for those who carry the virus, and still another set of pills is for women who want birth control.
The aim of the $ 23 million campaign is to reach 200,000 New Yorkers.
Last year, the city handed out at least 60 million condoms.
Since the program started in 2007, over 250 million have been distributed.
The #PlaySure containers are a limited edition offer. They can be obtained by calling 311 or using the NYC Condom Finder App.
The initiative is part of Mayor de Blasio’s goal of ending the spread of AIDS.
