Michelle Dockery bid farewell to her fiancé at a memorial service held in his native Ireland on Tuesday night.
The “Downton Abbey” star was one of hundreds of mourners paying their final respects to John Dineen at a service held in a church only minutes away from his family’s farm in Cork, according to People.
Dockery and her fiancé’s parents, Maria and Patrick, followed the coffin into the church of St. James at Ballinora, the site reports. Sadly, the memorial service took place the same day Dockery marked her 34th birthday.
The actress was in the midst of a U.S. promotional tour for “Downton Abbey” last week when she rushed to Ireland to be at her 34-year-old fiancé’s bedside during the final stages of his battle with a rare form of cancer.
Dineen, a public relations executive, passed away Sunday at Cork’s Marymount University Hospital & Hospice surrounded by Dockery and his family.
“The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private,” a rep for the star told ITV in statement following his passing.
A private funeral service will be held for Dineen at the church of St. James on Wednesday.
