Conor McGregor isn’t known as the most gracious fighter in the UFC – especially during the buildup to a fight – but the trash-talking champ typically showers his opponents with praise following a bout.

On Saturday night following Frankie Edgar’s tough knockout loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 222, McGregor took to Twitter to give the former lightweight champ a shoutout.

McGregor had volunteered to step in and fight Edgar after Max Holloway’s injury sent the UFC looking for a replacement fight for the main event, but the company opted to go with Ortega because there wasn’t enough time to properly promote and sell a McGregor fight.

Edgar started the fight on a high note but was clipped with an elbow in the first round and failed to recover.
