Matt Lauer’s inappropriate behavior was on full display at a 2008 event where he was the subject of his colleagues’ crude jokes.
Lauer was put to the fire at a Friar’s Club roast hosted by Al Roker with guests Katie Couric, Meredith Veira, Brian Williams and more before he gave them a taste of his own sense of humor.
The disturbing jokes he made — or were made about him — that fateful afternoon are even more telling in the wake of Lauer’s firing from NBC News and “Today” over accusations of sexual misconduct.
“As for rumors of romance with Katie: Let me just say that I saw that colon a lot before the rest of you saw it,” he said to the crowd, according to an article by Tony Ortega who was in attendance for the Village Voice.
“What’s with all the small-dick jokes? It was fun to look over and see Ann Curry laughing… like she doesn’t know how big my d–k really is,” he added, referring to some of the jokes made about Curry, who would later leave the show over her tense relationship with Lauer.
Couric served up a David Letterman style Top 10 about her longtime co-host, even inserting Curry into the mix.
Media personalities accused of sexual misconduct
“2. He loves to eat Curry,” she reportedly said to a roar from the crowd of nearly 2,000 high-powered members of the media, including current President Trump.
“According to his wife, he’s not really an early riser, if you know what I mean,” Couric joked of Lauer.
Veira had plenty of raunchy material to add to the mix that day, joking that Couric held onto Lauer’s balls.
“Look at Katie Couric. She juggled Matt’s balls for six years. That’s three years per ball,” she said. “She squeezed those suckers so tight, she left nothing for me. Thanks, Katie.”
Former NBC Universal Chariman Jeff Zucker, who adamantly denied knowing about Lauer’s sexual misconduct, made lewd jokes about the news anchor.
NBC Today Show host Matt Lauer was the subject of a lewd, crude roast in 2008.
“It’s just good to see Matt up here and not under my desk,” he joked.
“I don’t want to say Matt is a germophobe, but he’s the only guy I know who uses Purell both before and after he masturbates,” Zucker continued.
Joe Scarborough, who attended the roast, said on “Morning Joe” last week that he left because he felt uncomfortable.
“The whole theme was that he does the show and then he has sex with people, with employees,” Scarborough said. “So was this whispered behind closed doors? No. It was shouted from the mountaintops and everybody laughed about it.”
