Conor McGregor could be heading to the ring again, this time to fight Manny Pacquiao. According to Sky Sports’ Jim White, the two sides have opened talks for a potential fight in April 2018.
The Philippine senator has called out McGregor already. In his Thanksgiving post, he tweeted a photo of the UFC featherweight champion saying “Happy Thanksgiving @TheNotoriousMMA Stay fit my friend #realboxingmatch #2018”
The former flyweight, featherweight, lightweight and welterweight title holder is coming off of a controversial loss to Jeff Horn in July. The rematch was booked for November, but Pacquiao had to settle his political matters with the Philippines.
McGregor lost his first professional boxing match to Floyd Mayweather in August and had plans on returning to the octagon to protect his championship.
Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor could be heading to the ring next year.
“My focus is getting back into the right ring or Octagon,” McGregor told BetSafe. “2017 was historic. I have transcended both the sport of MMA and boxing. At this stage of my career, as it has been for the majority of my UFC career, potential opponents must lobby for fights with me. We could see Conor McGregor anywhere. I run the fight game, the fashion game, the whiskey game, or whatever the next business endeavor might be.”
Pacquiao also lost to Mayweather in 2015.
UFC and McGregor’s camp have not commented on the matter yet.
