Los Angeles DA reveals task force handling Hollywood abuse claims

Hollywood’s top prosecutor announced a new task force Thursday that will examine the wave of sex abuse allegations now rocking the entertainment industry.

Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey unveiled the elite team of veteran sex crimes prosecutors after both the Los Angeles Police Department and Beverly Hills Police announced they were reviewing separate allegations lodged against disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

The LAPD has confirmed it’s looking into sexual assault claims made against “Two Girls and a Guy” director James Toback and “Gossip Girl” actor Ed Westwick.

“In response to the widespread allegations of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry, I have established a task force of specially-trained deputy district attorneys who are ready to evaluate these cases,” Lacey said.

She said the group will “work together to ensure a uniformed approach to the legal review and possible prosecution of any case that meets both the legal and factual standards for criminal prosecution.”

“To date, we have not received any cases from law enforcement for possible criminal filing,” Lacey said. “We are in communication with the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments.”
