Leaving a door open reveals a wish for receptivity.

BE OPEN TO POSSIBILITIES

I recently dreamed I opened the side door of my house that leads downstairs to the basement to let in some fresh air before I went to my bedroom for a nap. When I awakened, I noticed the side door was still wide open as I had left it, but it was now dark. I had a bad feeling that something or someone had entered during my nap and was now lurking in the basement. I was staring into the basement with a feeling of dread. Please interpret this dream.

Vince Irenicus, Bay Shore, L.I.

Analysis: The cliché element of the dream – leaving the door open – reveals the wish for receptivity: You are open to new ideas. In that the basement is a symbol of the unconscious mind, you wish to allow dark, repressed material to surface into the light of day. One understands, however, that this wish is conflicted in that you dread what may be lurking down below in the psyche, ready to ascend and confront.

SHE WANTS TO SOAR LIKE AN EAGLE

In reality, I am starting a new business. The other day I dreamed that everything was light and white. I was a bird and I was flying. Soon I was joined by a sea of birds. Even though the wind was blowing hard and the force of the wind was strong, the birds were all flying with me. What is the meaning of this dream?

Katlean de Monchy, New York City

Analysis: There is nothing earthbound about flying dreams. They are liberating entities involved with the wish to lighten up and rise above difficulties. Becoming a bird reveals the wish to soar to great heights. Clearly, you want your business to take off. In that birds of a feather flock together, one understands the need to be around like-minded individuals. In this view, as long as you maintain unity and loyalty nothing will hold you back. You will surmount oppositions and reach the desired destination.
