Keith Urban said his father is in hospice and may only have a few weeks to live.
Country star Keith Urban’s father has been placed in hospice and may only have a few weeks to live.
The “Raise ‘Em Up” singer revealed the prognosis for his father, Robert, was not good on Tuesday as he observed his new exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
“He’s probably only got a few weeks, if that,” Urban told The Tennessean newspaper. “I’ve just been dealing with that the last couple of days.”
Urban, 48, has often said his father had a major influence on his love of country music. On Tuesday, he reminisced about a time he and his father purchased a new album from country icon Don Williams. Even though he hadn’t heard any of the songs on the CD, Robert Urban promised his son it would be good simply because it was Williams’ music.
The Australian singer said he felt “bittersweet” as he toured his new “Keith Urban So Far…” exhibit for the first time, his eyes raw and red from emotion, according to the newspaper.
Urban has credited his father, Robert Urban (right), for his love of country music.
“This has all come at a very strange time where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time,” he said. “(My dad) is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”
The exhibit will be available for viewing at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville from now through May.
Urban, who is married to actress Nicole Kidman, has charted 18 No. 1 singles in his career, won four Grammy awards and served as a judge on “American Idol” and a coach on “The Voice” in his illustrious career.
