Kathie Lee Gifford and her late husband Frank Gifford were inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
It was a lovefest but there were still some tears. Kathie and her late, great hubby, Frank were inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame on Tuesday night. It was an amazing honor and made even more special because we were surrounded by so many people in our lives who love us.
Kathie Lee Gifford attends Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame Awards 25th Anniversary Gala on October 20, 2015.
KLG: It was so lovely to be recognized for whatever career I’ve had and there have been highs and lows — let’s be honest. It’s a huge honor but it was bittersweet because I didn’t realize that Frank wasn’t in this hall of fame. It’s the only one in the world he’s not in! But he is now. And I was surrounded by people that I love my kids, Hoda, Regis and my “Today” show colleagues.
It also brought my children home, but I’m not sure if it was because of me, I think it was because their dad was being honored. And they did a beautiful job of accepting for him.
HK: There were two times when the room was silent. When Kath got up and spoke, you could have heard a pin drop. And when your kids Cody and Cassidy got up and spoke, you could have heard a pin drop. The speeches were beautiful, particularly when Kath talked about how when she met Frank, she prayed that she would get 10 years with him. They were married for 29.
KLG: It was an incredible night for everyone even Matt Lauer, who suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction on the red carpet.
Matt Lauer: “I was just bursting with pride over Kathie Lee’s induction into the Hall of Fame!”
OPRAH’S WEIGHTY WALLET
Oprah made $ 70 million in one day just by buying a 10% stake in Weight Watchers.
Leave it to Oprah to make news with Weight Watchers, a brand which has pretty much been around since the dawn of time. She’s bought a significant slice of the company.
HK: Oh, my God. She’s so smart.
KLG: A very savvy woman. She made $ 70 million in one day just by buying a 10% stake. And it was a sirloin. Just kidding.
HK: Without sauce. I’ve done all of them (Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers). When we were younger, because everyone was always on a diet, my sister, mom and I did liquid protein where you drank the red stuff and had one meal. We did the Slim Fast. We did Atkins. And we did WW, that’s what you call it when you’re in the club, and we used to memorize every point value. Then I got over it.
THEME PARTIES & MUSIC
Like many kids, a little girl from Arkansas celebrated turning 4 with a theme party. But instead of “Star Wars” or “Frozen,” Iris Gill asked her mommy to throw her one based on the drugstore chain, CVS.
KLG: I’ve never heard such a thing, but I love her individuality.
HK: My themed birthday party would be karaoke doughnut shop.
KLG: Dirty songs. With doughnuts. Dirty/Doughnuts.
HK: Yours would be GIFFT wine-themed.
KLG: You know what I love to get? An MRI. You know why? Cause when I go in there I ask for Kathie Lee Gifford on Pandora. And they give me all my music for 45 minutes uninterrupted by crap and people talking. That’s my idea of heaven. And I do have a nip of wine before and after I go in there.
THOSE KOOKY ‘STAR WARS’
Like everyone else, we’re getting excited for the new “Star Wars” movie. The film, “The Force Awakens,” opens just in time for Christmas.
HK: I loved the first “Star Wars” just because it was so new and current and exciting.
KLG: Yeah, but name the others.
HK: OK, OK, I didn’t see the others. But I do think watching Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford – like there’s something about watching them embrace that makes you go …
KLG: Let’s be honest, we just want to see how everybody looks like now.
HK: And what’s the plot line?
KLG: I don’t care about that!
TOO YOUNG FOR CROWN
Kate Middleton wore the late queen mother’s tiara at a state banquet in England.
Kate Middleton, 33, was dazzling this week wearing the late queen mother’s tiara at a state banquet in England.
HK: It didn’t look like Kate.
KLG: It was too formal and too old fashioned.
HK: She’s so natural. When you look at her wearing a crown you feel like you want someone who’s much older donning that.
The celebrity baby naming game strikes again. Zooey Deschanel named her new baby Elsie Otter. Something about it works for us.
KLG: It’s whimsical.
HK: Maybe she likes otters?
KLG: If you met her, she’s a little Zooey! And that’s her charm.
HK: It is kind of cute.
KLG: It’s better than beaver.
