Kate Upton called out Guess for continuing to employ a creative director who allegedly used his power to harass women.
“It’s disappointing that such an iconic women’s brand @GUESS is still empowering Paul Marciano as their creative director #metoo,” Upton claimed on Twitter Wednesday night.
She followed up her comments on Instagram by explaining that Marciano, who co-founded Guess, “shouldn’t be allowed to use his power in the industry to sexually and emotionally harass women.”
The model later told TMZ that she was “excited” and “couldn’t wait” to share her entire story with the world.
Marciano, 66, founded Guess Jeans in 1981 before selling half of the company two years later. In 2015, he reportedly stepped down as CEO and became executive chairman and chief creative officer.
Upton, 25, has starred in a number of Guess advertisements.
She did not specify in her posts if Marciano ever behaved inappropriately with her.
In 2009, model Lindsey Ring filed a lawsuit and labor complaint against Guess for Marciano’s behavior. She claimed that fitters and designers would openly discuss that Marciano gave her extra attention because he “liked her breasts” and that the former director of operations, Tracey Layana, told her to always “look good and smell good” for the powerful executive in order to “keep him interested,” documents obtained by The Blast state.
Ring also alleged that in 2008 he tried to kiss her and “aggressively grabbed the back of her hair and told her that he ‘wanted her.'”
She complained to an executive named Teresa Cappucino and was told if she sued she would never work in the industry again, according to The Blast documents.
“Mr. Marciano denied the allegation at that time, and a contemporaneous investigation conducted in 2009 by the company and outside counsel did not corroborate the plaintiff’s claims,” a statement from Guess about Ring’s claims reads.
Marciano attended an event for Guess’ Spring ’18 line in New York City on Wednesday along with Jennifer Lopez, who stars in the Marciano line’s upcoming campaigns.
Guess did not immediately respond to a Daily News request for comment. He told TMZ that he never did anything to Upton and is shocked by her claims.
“If she has a claim, there’s one place to tell the truth and that’s in court or to the police,” he said.
