Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston probably aren’t headed for a sequel.
Fans have been clamoring for the movie stars to get back together after Aniston announced her separation from husband Justin Theroux on Thursday, but a People source says Pitt and the “Friends” actress have been over each other for a long time.
“They broke up, and they did it because they had serious issues,” the insider told the magazine. “They’re not stupid. They remember why it didn’t work.”
Aniston and Pitt were married for five years before divorcing in 2005. Pitt began a highly publicized romance with Angelina Jolie shortly after the split.
He’s been single since 2016 after he and Jolie announced their decision to separate following two years of marriage and more than a decade as a couple.
Despite them both being single, the odds of Pitt, 54, and Aniston, 49, getting back together are low, according to the People source.
“They haven’t seen each other in ages,” the insider said. “For well over a decade now they have lived totally separate lives and so not surprisingly, they have become totally different people than who they once were when they were together.”
Aniston and Theroux, who married in 2015, didn’t give a reason for their breakup but assured that the decision was “mutual.”
“We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship,” Aniston and Theroux said in a joint statement.
The duo began dating in 2011.
They noted in their statement that they came to the decision to separate in late 2017. Aniston has reportedly been doing well in the weeks since.
“Jen has continued her life as usual,” a source told People. “She has seemed fine. There has been no indication that she is upset.”
