Instagram launched a new app Thursday that transforms a series of photos into a stitched video.
Boomerang is available on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platforms. Users take a series of burst photos, then the app puts them together and turns it into a high-quality video.
Users can play videos forward and backward, and can be shot in either portrait or landscape view.
This is the third standalone app Instagram has launched for mobile devices. There’s also the video app Hyperlapse for time-lapsed clips and Layout to crop multiple photos and organize them into a single image.
“We’re inspired by the visual stories you tell on Instagram,” reads a portion of a blog post from Instagram published Thursday. “With looping videos and Hyperlapse, you experiment with motion in new and exciting ways. Now, with Boomerang, we can’t wait to see what you’ll create next.”
