A young Jewish man was brutally beaten on a Midwood sidewalk during an early morning robbery, surveillance video shows.
The 20-year-old victim was knocked to the sidewalk and hit repeatedly in the face by a hoodie wearing assailant in front of 809 Avenue M at 12:50 a.m.
After the victim was on the floor, another attacker appears and grabs the man’s iPhone and wallet from his pocket.
A friend called Hatzalah who took the victim to Maimonides hospital where he is in stable condition, according to community sources.
Elected officials in the area were furious and offered a $ 3,000 award for information leading to an arrest.
“I’m shocked this could happen in our neighborhood, and in such a safe community,” said state Assemblyman Dov Hikind.
State senator Simcha Felder said the attack showed the importance of surveillance cameras in the neighborhood.
“It’s a shame that people don’t feel comfortable walking around in their own neighborhood,” he said.
