George and Amal Clooney donate $500G to support stricter gun laws

George and Amal Clooney offered up a whopping sum to call for stricter gun laws in the wake of the high school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

The Clooneys announced they would be donating $ 500,000 to March for Our Lives — which was organized by Marjory Stoneman Douglas classmates Jaclyn Corin, Emma Gonzalez, Cameron Kasky, David Hogg and Alex Wind.

“Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School,” the 56-year-old actor and director told the Daily News in a statement.

“Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating $ 500,000 to help pay for this groundbreaking event.”

“Our children’s lives depend on it,” he continued.

The students who survived the horrific shooting organized the March 24 event where both students and supporters will take to the streets “to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today.”

Clooney and his human rights lawyer wife, Amal, have been open about their political views and donated $ 1 million to the Southern Poverty Law Center to fight “bigotry and hate” in the wake of the Charlottesville violence in August 2017.

The couple’s generosity quickly sparked a chain of similar donations from stars like Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, who all pledged to match the Clooney’s $ 500,000 donation.

“George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $ 500,000 donation to ‘March for Our Lives,'” Winfrey wrote on Twitter. “These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.”

Ex-Dreamworks chairman Katzenberg and his wife Marilyn also said they plan to join the Clooneys at the event next month.
