Clay Buchholz is another Boston athlete who supports business man-turned Republican candidate Donald Trump, but not because he’s super into politics.
The Red Sox pitcher told the Boston Globe that he is “absolutely” behind Trump getting to the White House — because the presidential hopeful introduced him to his wife.
“I’m not really into politics, but I’m watching a lot more now,” Buchholz told the newspaper. “He’s been awesome to me. He says what’s on his mind, which is why he’s accomplished so much in his life.”
In 2008, model Lindsay Clubine was helping Trump host a UFC event in Anaheim, the righthander said, when he and “eight or nine guys” went to the afterparty.
“It was ‘Affliction Banned’ fighting, and he owned the whole circuit,” Buchholz said. “My wife knew him prior, from ‘Deal or No Deal’ when he came on the show as a celebrity banker.
“She was helping him host this event in Anaheim. So when we all walked in, he was there, and he saw us and he introduced Lindsay to me.”
The couple were married at Trump National Golf Club in California the following year.
“I always found him to be a good-hearted person,” Buchholz said of Trump. “He’s a lot of fun, but he’s obviously one of the smartest businessmen in the world, given what he’s been able to accomplish.”
