Bindi Irwin’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contract rejected

Bindi Irwin is swamped in legal red tape after a judge rejected her “Dancing with the Stars” contract for lack of proof her famous father is dead.

The Los Angeles County judge shot down the contract for the 17-year-old on Tuesday, saying that without proper evidence her father has “irrevocably and perpetually” relinquished all claim to her earnings, “the court is unable to find that it is in the best interest of the minor to be bound by the terms of the contract.”

The ruling by Judge Maren Nelson surprised fans because Bindi’s “Crocodile Hunter” dad Steve Irwin was a beloved TV celebrity who generated international headlines when he died in September 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb.

A court source said the high-profile death was beside the point.

“All the paperwork has to be sufficient,” the source said. “Legally you have to have paperwork associated with the filing.”

An ABC publicist said the network had no comment on the contract issue.

Bindi has become a TV star in her own right with several shows including “Bindi’s Bootcamp,” a wildlife-themed game show filmed at the Australia Zoo.

“Don’t let that judge get you down,” a fan with the screen name Kennessa wrote on Bindi’s Instagram account Thursday. “America welcomes you and everyone loves you.”

Bindi’s mom Terri Irwin already has submitted a signed form to the court giving up all claim to any money her daughter makes on the show, according to TMZ.com.

TMZ first reported the details of Bindi’s contract, saying she agreed to an initial guarantee of $ 125,000 and weekly bonuses that grow in size as she and partner Derek Hough manage to avoid elimination.

The contract guarantees $ 10,000 for weeks three and four, $ 15,000 for week five, $ 20,000 for weeks six and seven, $ 30,000 for weeks eight and nine and $ 50,000 for weeks 10 and 11.

Bindi already has completed eight weeks — beating out singer Chaka Khan, actor Gary Busey and celebrity chef Paula Deen — so her paycheck now stands at $ 230,000.
