Auburn forward Anfernee McLemore suffered a gruesome ankle injury late in the first half of the Tigers’ game at South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
As McLemore jumped up for a defensive rebound, he slipped and lost his balance. He landed awkwardly on his left ankle and appeared to dislocate it, a similar injury to what happened to the Celtics’ Gordon Hayward in the opening game of the NBA season. McLemore started screaming in agony, and the ESPN cameras picked up the sound clearly.
McLemore was later stretchered off the court in Columbia, S.C. He gave a wave to the road crowd, which was applauding as he exited the floor.
Auburn entered the weekend ranked No. 10 in the country and is enjoying a breakout season under fourth-year head coach Bruce Pearl. McLemore is averaging 7.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He had one point and five rebounds before leaving Sunday’s contest.
