Hitting back at President Trump, Alec Baldwin says his impression of him isn’t going anywhere until he’s out of office. Nathan Rousseau Smith has more.
In the cold open of Saturday’s show, Baldwin let loose on the president and his tumultuous week that saw resignations and head-scratching statements.
“I have one of the healthiest mentals,” Baldwin as Trump said, after stressing the importance of mental health in the wake of the Florida school shooting.
But rest assured, Baldwin’s Trump can stop school shootings without a weapon, singlehandedly, “just like how I’m running the whole White House by myself. Because these people who work for me keep resigning.”
He went on to mourn the loss of Hope Hicks, the former communications director who stepped down this past week.
“She’s like a daughter to me. So smart, so hot.”
Hicks, played by Cecily Strong, appeared later on “Weekend Update” to say goodbye to her friends from her “semester abroad at the White House.”
“Some people dance in our lives and quickly go. But they always leave footprints on our hearts, and fingerprints on Russian documents.”
Baldwin’s SNL appearance came after Trump ripped the actor’s impersonation on Twitter.
Baldwin fired back: “Agony though it may be, I’d like to hang in there for the impeachment hearings, the resignation speech, the farewell helicopter ride to Mara-A-Lago,” he wrote. “You know. The Good Stuff. That we’ve all been waiting for.”
