A large car wreck along an icy Colorado highway nearly sent actor James Woods flying off a cliff as he veered out of the pileup’s path, the actor said.
At least six cars smashed into each other when a driver speeding through an ice storm spun out of control in the Glenwood Canyon Monday morning, Woods recalled in a series of admittedly “rambling” posts to Twitter after the collision.
Woods swerved and hit a wall to avoid the pileup, but slid into a guardrail that stopped his Jeep Grand Cherokee from plunging 100 feet into the Colorado River below Interstate 70.
He walked away from the close call with only a “little concussion,” he wrote.
“God smiled on me today,” said Woods, most recently known for sharing his conservative views on Twitter. “I am so happy to be alive.”
Although his vehicle’s airbag did not deploy, his “old tank” of a Jeep saved his life, he added.
The route between Denver and Grand Junction is known for its treacherous conditions during the winter months.
