Four people were shot, one fatally, outside a sleek Los Angeles hotel Sunday morning, apparently after a fight over a birthday party, police said.
A call about a fight in front of The Standard hotel came in around 2:40 a.m., KTLA reported. A later call said there were shots fired.
Officers found two victims on the scene, one about 10 blocks away and the fourth at an undisclosed location. One of the victims died in a hospital, while the other three are in stable condition, police said.
The exact motivation for the shooting is unknown, but investigators told NBC Los Angeles it was apparently sparked by a fight in the hotel about access to a birthday party.
The birthday battle started one of the hotel’s upper floors before moving to the lobby, spilling out to the parking lot and ending in gunfire.
Footage from the scene showed broken glass from the hotel’s entrance lining the streets. The hotel shut down for several hours before reopening around 10 a.m.
Police have made no arrests and named no suspects. None of the victims have been identified.
