Smartphones and tablets are great for life and work, but they’re especially fun for play.

It’s no surprise Games is one of the most popular categories on mobile devices. According to the latest iTunes charts, 7 of the top 10 paid apps are games, while the category owns every spot in Google’s top 10 grossing games on Android.

Naturally, since Games are so popular, the selection is rather robust. Need help finding the best games that will likely keep your swiping and tapping fingers busy? Here are 10 choices:

Crossy Road

Free for iOS, Android, Kindle, Windows

Picture the classic arcade game Frogger, only there’s a chicken weaving through endless waves of traffic. The deeper players progress, the more cute critters they unlock including ducks and bunnies, or even mummies.

Fallout Shelter

Free for iOS, Android

Based on the classic role-playing adventure, Fallout Shelter lets players manage their own vault of dwellers in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Players attract residents, build plants to manage power and water, and open restaurants. They also need to secure the entrance from enemies such as Raiders or mutated creatures. Players outfit dwellers with gear and weapons, give them jobs, and even watch them have kids. Incredible depth for a mobile game.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft

Free for iOS, Android, Kindle

The collectible card game from Blizzard was already a hit on PCs, and now it’s become even bigger on smartphones and tablets. Based on lore from World of Warcraft, players create decks combining spells and minions and take them into battles against other players. Blizzard recently expanded the game to include solo adventures to earn special cards. It’s proof mobile games can lure core video game players, too.

Lara Croft Go

$0.99-$4.99 for iOS, Android, Windows

It earned Apple’s iPhone Game of the Year Award for a reason. The turned-based puzzle game based on the Tomb Raider series features treasure hunter Lara Croft exploring ancient ruins in search of rare artifacts. It boasts more than 100 puzzles spread across six chapters, as Croft discovers the tale of the Queen of Venom.

Marvel Contest of Champions

Free for iOS, Android

Players compile a team of superheroes and villains from the Marvel Comics universe, participating in a series of one-on-one brawls to complete quests or test your skills against human opponents online. This fighting games takes advantage of the simpler touchscreen controls, requiring only swipes and taps to perform a myriad of basic and superpowered strikes.

Monument Valley

$0.99-$3.99 for iOS, Android, Kindle, Windows

Last year’s winner of Apple’s Game of the Year prize is a vibrant puzzle game where players help Ida navigate through a series of environments by manipulating her surroundings. The game makes great use of 2D and 3D space, as players move platforms or other structures to create new paths for the princess to discover. Players may twist a multi-spoke knob using a circular motion with two fingers, or pull a platform up or down. It’s one of the most visually alluring games on any mobile device.

Pac-Man 256 

Free for iOS, Android, Kindle

The video game icon has come a long way from his arcade roots. This reimagining of the classic features Pac-Man still dodging ghosts and chomping pellets. This time, the levels are a lot bigger and the action will never ends. Interesting twists such as “glitches” pop up to force the player to quickly escape.

Scrubby Dubby Saga

Free for iOS, Android, Kindle

The latest match-3 puzzle game from Candy Crush Saga makers King has players matching tiles to collect soaps. Each level requires players to collect a set amount of soaps within a limited number of turns or lose the round. Unlike Candy Crush where you slide an individual piece of candy, Scrubby Dubby Saga requires players slide rows of soap to complete a match.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes

Free for iOS, Android

Players collect heroes and villains from a galaxy far, far away, building a formidable roster featuring Jedis, Stormtroopers and other key characters from Star Wars lore to participate in a series of turn-based battles. Players can also equip heroes with special gear and abilities to make them more powerful.

Threes

Free for iOS, Android, Windows; $1.99 for Kindle

It’s perhaps the most innovative puzzle game for any mobile device. Players must match a series of tiles but only in multiples of 3. Pull together two 3’s to make a 6, or two 12’s for a 24, or even a 2 and a 1 to form 3. The goal is to pull together the highest multiple possible, which can prove incredibly difficult.
