Simply by being alive last Wednesday, President Barack Obama played a paramount role in a record-breaking streak. According to Quartz’s Steve Friess, the mid-week hump day’s arrival marked 18,967 days since a U.S. president had died in office, topping the previous longest streak of 18,966 days.

Since the birth of the U.S., eight presidents have died while serving their terms. And before the most recent record-breaking streak of presidential life, the longest span of nearly 52 years occurred between George Washington’s inauguration and William Henry Harrison’s death from pneumonia.
