Popular British-American TV host Sam Sarpong died on Monday in an apparent suicide, Us Weekly is reporting.
The 40-year-old Sarpong was the former co-host of MTV’s “Yo Momma” diss show along with actor Wilmer Valderrama, and he also modeled for Tommy Hilfiger.
“It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Sarpong Jr. must share the news that Sam has passed away,” his family said in a statement obtained by Us Weekly.
“The family appreciates the thoughts and prayers and other expressions of sympathy, and request that privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time.”
A rep for the Medical Examiner for the County of Los Angeles told Us Weekly that Sarong died after jumping off a bridge.
In their statement, his family said Sarpong’s death was still being investigated.
In addition to his hosting and modeling career, Sarpong also regularly appeared on television shows and in several movies as an actor. His track record includes appearances on “24,” “Veronica Mars” and “Everyone Hates Chris.”
