A Tennessee State football player was thrown off the team and out of school after he punched a coach on the sideline.
Tigers defensive end Latrelle Lee was caught on video knocking strength coach T.J. Greenstone to the ground after striking him in the head twice during the team’s game against Southeast Missouri Saturday, according to the Tennessean.
Tennessee State expelled Lee from the school on Monday.
Greenstone is supposed to keep players who aren’t in the game from getting too close to the sideline to avoid penalties, the Tennessean reports.
Tennessee State defensive end Latrelle Lee knocked strength coach T.J. Greenstone to the ground after punching him during a game Saturday.
During the time of the punches, Greenstone was reportedly walking down the sideline telling players to get back if they were toeing the line. Lee struck the coach twice before he toppled over onto the turf.
Lee was ironically a criminal justice major at Tennessee State. In 2016, he made the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
The defensive end appeared in two games for the Tigers this season and six games last season. He recorded 18 tackles this season, but did not play in Saturday’s game.
Greenstone previously played for Vanderbilt from 2007-2011 and has been coaching for the Tigers for the past four seasons. He started as an assistant coordinator before getting the position of strength and conditioning in August 2016.
