Singer Martha Wainwright was among the victims of Sunday’s scaffolding collapse in SoHo.
The “Around the Bend” singer told fans at her Sunday night show that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time earlier in the day when strong gusts of wind caused scaffolding on Broadway and Spring St. to fall on five passersby.
Wainwright said she suffered a “badly bruised right shoulder, but was joking about it,” according to one concert-goer at her City Winery performance. She was also in decent enough shape to attend the venue’s “Guitar Mash” event before taking the stage.
“She was great by the way,” according to our witness. “Super funny and droll and talented. And apparently tough as s–t too.”
Wainwright, the sister of Grammy winning singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright, will have plenty to be grateful for if she’s celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday. The Montreal native is booked to perform in Quebec City, Canada, on Friday before jumping the pond to do a Monday night show at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland.
Wainwright’s reps did not reply to a request for comment.
