A suicide car bomber targeted a convoy of foreign troops in the Afghan capital Sunday, an official said.

Government spokesman Najib Danish said the attack happened in the center of Kabul around 9 a.m. local time, the Associated Press reported.

He said there are civilian casualties but the numbers are unclear. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

U.S. Army Col. Brian Tribus — a NATO spokesman — confirmed the attack and said it was a roadside bomb, the AP reported.
