A Pennsylvania couple was found dead in their home from suspected drug overdoses after their 7-year-old daughter told school officials she couldn’t wake them up.

Police said they discovered the bodies of Christopher Dilly, 26, and Jessica Lally, 25, in the den of their McKeesport home Monday night, along with three other living children elsewhere in the house, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Investigators said they uncovered drug paraphernalia in the home as well.

Dilly and Lally may have been dead for a day or two before their bodies were found around 5 p.m., according to Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman. Investigators believe they died from drug overdoses, and they don’t suspect any foul play, Schurman said.

Their daughter had mentioned on the bus that she dressed herself for school and left home Monday morning without being able to awake her parents, Mckeesport Area School District officials said in a statement to WPXI-TV.

“Our school district took immediate action after we were notified of the concerns shared by one of our students on their route home,” school officials said. “We will be available for the family affected by this tragedy.”

The police took the girl who reported her parents unresponsive and a 9-month-old girl, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy to a hospital for a medical exam, KDKA-TV reported. Social welfare officials assumed custody of the children.

Police told KDKA a 50-year-old man who lived on the same block of Evans Ave. suffered a fatal heroin overdose in the third drug-related death Monday in the suburban town 11 miles outside Pittsburgh.

It wasn’t immediately clear what drug police believe Dilly and Lally had taken for their fatal overdose. Representatives for the county police department and medical examiner’s office didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday night.

Yet Lally’s sister told WPXI-TV that Lally “wasn’t the person I knew” after falling deeply into heroin addiction. Courtney Lally shared photos of a trash-filled home in nearby Munhall she said the four kids were living in earlier this year.

The family had a falling-out when Jessica Lally found out about her sister and mother’s efforts to gain custody of the children, Courtney Lally said.

“I feel like if I wouldn’t have done that, it would have been way different,” she told WPXI, choking up into tears. “We could have made up months ago and she’d be here today.”

Dilly’s Facebook page showed a series of rambling posts from March in which he accused Jessica Lally’s family members of abusing the couple’s children. His profile photo showed him and Lally, who listed her last name as “Dilly,” posing together in a selfie.

Her profile also said she was the “mom of 4 beautiful children” and “engaged to my love Chris.” The last post, from Aug. 30, showed smiling portraits of each of the children.

Courtney Lally and her mother plan to file in family court for custody of the four kids Wednesday.
