“I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations,” Carter, 37, said in a statement. “Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual.”
“We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally,” Carter said. “This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”
Stars accused of sexual harassment and assault
In the post to her personal blog Tuesday, Schuman claims Carter invited her over for what she described as a “casual hangout” with him and a friend at his apartment in Santa Monica, Calif.
She claims she and Carter began to kiss after they went into his office to listen to his new music, before he brought her into the bathroom.
“He shut the door and we continued to kiss. I asked him what we were doing in there,” Schuman wrote. “He didn’t respond and continued to kiss me. He then pick me up, put me on the bathroom counter and started to unbutton my pants. I told him I didn’t want to go any further.”
Schuman claims Carter, who was 22, then removed her pants and performed oral sex, despite her telling him not to. She alleges he raped her shortly after.

“He was relentless, refusing to take my no’s for an answer,” Schuman wrote. “He was heavy, too heavy to get out from under him. Then I felt it, he put something inside of me.”
Schuman, now 33, said she was a virgin at the time and had been vocal about her “religious conservative christian (sic) values.”
The alleged incident occurred after they were cast in a TV movie together, Schuman said without specifying the movie’s title. They starred in “The Hollow” together in 2004.
