‘Moulin Rouge’ musical to open in Boston before Broadway

Come what may, “Moulin Rouge” is headed to Boston.

The musical version of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 movie will open at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in summer 2018, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The show is expected to then move to Broadway, but no dates have been finalized.

“Moulin Rouge,” which starred Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, followed a courtesan and a poet who fell in love despite their situations in 1900 Paris.

The Boston cast has not yet been announced.
