Take a page — or three! — from the pin-ups.
Khloe Kardashian, Amber Rose and Christie Brinkley are hitting bookshelves this fall with glossy tell-alls spilling their secrets to being sexy, strong and successful – even during high-profile divorces and social media spats.
The Daily News flipped through all three books from three very different beauty icons to pull each role model’s rules to living a most fabulous life.
“Timeless Beauty: Over 100 Tips, Secrets and Shortcuts to Looking Great” by Christie Brinkley, $ 30, available Nov. 10.
“Strong Looks Better Naked” by Khloe Kardashian, $ 26.99, available now
“How to Be a Bad Bitch” by Amber Rose, $ 28, available now
Brinkley: It takes a lot of work to be a supermodel at 61! While she writes that beauty just needs “a little polish,” that polish includes a 14-step makeup process just for painting your “basic face,” not to mention hair extensions, and minimal Botox and fillers. And although she’s against “denyiting,” or denying herself delicious food, she cuts out all meat and fish, most dairy, GMOs, sugar and non-organic foods. But there’s also plenty of helpful charts and quick tips on squeezing in exercise during daily chores and the wardrobe staples every woman needs.
Kardashian: The titillating title suggests a “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”-style romp through cutting-edge beauty treatments and diet fixes to put your best selfie forward. But this surprisingly down-to-earth confessional preaches that there are no quick fixes to weight loss and extreme makeovers: Kardashian lays out her five-day (a week!) workout plan, her healthy meal plan, and how journaling helped her weather her father’s death, her stepfather’s transition from Bruce to Caitlyn Jenner, and her divorce from Lamar Odom.
Rose: It takes a lot of balls to be a bad bitch. This grrl-power memoir ditches diet and exercise tips and only touches upon beauty advice, instead focusing on building your self-confidence. There is a hot chapter toward the back on how to seduce a man and enjoy sex, however, as well as useful bulletpoints on the types of friends every girl should have (the gay best friend, the life-of-the-party friend, etc.) and what guys like (girls who are put together but not afraid to get messy in the bedroom.)
Brinkley: Poses sitting in an oversized sweater and sparkly stilettos, sans pants. The cover remarks that she, “Happens to be 61 Years Old.”
Kardashian: Lays naked atop strategically placed white sheets with tousled bed-head.
Rose: Stands almost naked in gold body paint and gold accessories atop a rocky cliff while aiming a bow-and-arrow; a shot naked man lies at her feet.
OVERUSED PHRASE :
Rose: “Bad bitch.”
Brinkley: “I always say that my best beauty secret is smiling.”
Kardashian: “I learned long ago that people find confidence attractive. If you walk around thinking you’re pretty cute, people are going to believe it. And I believed I was cute.”
Rose: “Taking a little extra time to double-check your look in a mirror, in proper lighting , can go a long way .”
Brinkley: “While I don’t count calories (or even get on the scale very often) I do have a pair of what I like to call ‘honest jeans.’ They’re the pair that fits me perfectly when I’m at my ideal weight. So if I’m ever worried that I may have put on a few pounds, I slip into those (or try to!) and they never lie to me.”
Kardashian: “It’s not about the weight, ladies, and it’s not about the calories, either. … The only thing that matters is how you feel or how you look in that little red skirt you haven’t worn in three years.”
Rose: “Women shouldn’t be ashamed of their size, no matter how big or small they are. There’s nothing sexier than a woman owning her body. … Feel good in your clothes, whatever they are, and you’ll always look amazing.”
Brinkley : “Don’t eat after 6 p.m., if possible. Cut out all white food – that includes sugar, flour, and things made with them. Eat an apple 20 minutes before a meal – it’ll fill you up so that you feel satiated sooner.”
Kardashian: “I lost 13 pounds in less than three months, just by cutting out dairy. Though of course I was still exercising.”
Rose: “I believe in Spanx. It is one of the best undergarments in the world; it creates clean lines and streamlines every woman’s figure. Spanx takes the best of you and makes it better, which can only boost your confidence.”
BREAKING A SWEAT
Brinkley: “As I’m walking or jogging, I use my arms to do swimming strokes … These exercises will help strengthen your triceps and prevent that flappy skin under your arms.”
Kardashian: “I love squats. I love lunges. It’s all about your legs, your hamstrings, and especially your booty. … When I was helping Kourt and Kim with their mothering duties, I would do squats while holding the babies! LOL!”
Rose: “Loud music helps to pep me up, too. Anything really upbeat, anything I can dance to, improves my mood.”
Brinkley: “I have a passion for America’s Wild West and own many Native American beaded vests and fringe jackets, vintage embroidered cowgirl and cowboy shirts, turquoise, silver bracelets, and, of course, cowboy hats, moccasins, and boots!”
Kardashian: “Women also torture themselves over sizes. They go shopping and they can’t fit into a size 4 and it makes them go crazy. Well, I don’t care. I could be a size 10, but if I look and feel good, that number is just as meaningless to me as the number on the scale.”
Rose: “Now I know that not everyone will interpret my booty shorts as a form of self empowerment. But truly, many women dress sexy in order to feel sexy on the inside, rather than for a guy, and that’s awesome. That’s what being a bad bitch is all about.”
Brinkley, who split from Peter Cook: “It can absolutely drain your energy and feel almost impossible to navigate – especially when there are kids involved. You feel very alone, and having to put on a brave face for your children only increases that sense of isolation … Reading about what others are going through makes you realize you’re not alone, and that no matter what feelings you’re having, you’re not crazy!”
Kardashian, who split from Lamar Odom: “So yes, my marriage was over. And it hurt like hell. and I wallowed, briefly, and when I’d had enough self-pity I put one foot in front of the other and kept moving. … When your marriage fails, it’s a lousy feeling, but this doesn’t mean you’re a failure. The marriage failed, period. Dust yourself off and learn from it and move on. ”
Rose, who split from Wiz Khalifa: “My marriage didn’t last, but I know it’s not the end for me, even though it feels like it sometimes. I know I’m a catch. Sometimes things don’t work out, and that doesn’t mean it’s all your fault. It means you trusted your vision, and that bit of it didn’t work out – and that’s OK. Something else will. This is just what God wanted.”
Brinkley: “I must say that laughing and eating pasta are two of the most fun ways to get wrinkles, and I’ll very happily take them!”
Kardashian: “When I was very young — a preteen — I came to terms with the fact that I was always going to be curvy and bigger than most of the girls around me. I remember thinking, This is who I am, a big-boned girl, and this is what my body’s always going to be like.”
Rose: “Yes, I do have cellulite, actually, and I’ve never tried to deny it. … All girls, even skinny minnies, have cellulite. If guys minded, they wouldn’t be with women at all. If a guy doesn’t like it, f— him.”
