Kellyanne Conway turns to pal Chris Cuomo over Trump book

There’s nothing fake about Kellyanne Conway’s affection for Chris Cuomo — or her displeasure with author Michael Wolff.

Before going on Cuomo’s brand new CNN show “Prime Time,” on Wednesday night, Conway told a media insider there’s nowhere she’d rather “return fire” against Wolff, whose tome “Fire and Fury” paints the White House in a very negative light. Despite the White House’s tireless criticism of CNN as “fake news,” Conway thinks Cuomo is the perfect conduit.

“I like sparring with Chris Cuomo best because I know him,” she told our source. Conway is also glad the interview will take place indoors.

“I’m usually freezing outside on the lawn while he’s reading from the teleprompter with five people in his ear including (CNN president) Jeff Zucker probably saying ‘blow through the commercials, blow through the commercials.’ So he has the advantage.”

For Cuomo, whose new prime time program kicked off a short test run this week, Conway’s visit couldn’t come at a better time either.

“Despite the testy clashes they sometimes have, they realize they make good TV together,” said our source.

In “Fire and Fury,” Conway’s boss is portrayed as a shallow man who’s out of his depth. Wolff said that it was Conway, along with recently ousted “chief strategist” Steve Bannon, who helped him gain crucial White House access for his no-holds-barred tome about the President. Conway has been largely out of the public eye since the book hit shelves last week.

According to our insider, Conway, a 50-year-old Camden, N.J. native has been “coming into her own” in a strategic capacity now that Bannon has left the administration. Despite Wednesday’s CNN appearance, Conway claims she prefers being an aspiring wonk to a talker.

“I told the president from the beginning that I didn’t want to be press secretary — I’m a policy person,” she said. “That’s what I like to do and that’s what I’m doing.”

One show where Conway is unlikely to appear is “Morning Joe,” where she’s been “banned” by hosts who question the credibility of the spokeswoman that infamously described her own words as “alternative facts.” She scoffs at that ban.

“How can you be ‘banned’ from something you don’t want to do?” she asked.
