Justin Theroux had a brush with death on his honeymoon with Jennifer Aniston.
During Friday’s appearance on “Live with Kelly and Michael,” the actor revealed how a scuba diving trip almost ended up turning into a deadly affair.
Theroux and Aniston honeymooned in the French Polynesian Island with a VIP vacation squad that included their A-list buds Courteney Cox, Chelsea Handler, and Jason Bateman.
“The Leftovers” hunk and his pals were swimming about “40 feet” below sea when the incident occurred.
Even though he had taken scuba diving lessons beforehand, the 44-year-old actor wasn’t’ prepared for his oxygen tank to malfunction.
“We’re going really deep and I look at [the tank ] and it’s on red,” he recalled on the show. “I swim over and show it [to the instructor] and he [HAND SIGNALS]to keep swimming.”
Theroux said he tried to relax and enjoy the fish, manta rays and beautiful scenery, but felt like he needed oxygen.
“I swam over to my friend and he looks at me [like ]”Oh, My God you’re about to die.”
The instructor, who Theroux called a “jerk” for not paying attention to him the first time, realized how serious the situation was, so he quickly attached the actor to his emergency respirator which caused him to cough underwater and water to pour into his mouth.
“Why are we doing an emergency respirator when Earth is right there?” Theroux said of the instructor’s reaction.
Later, he learned that the scuba instruction didn’t want to bring the group back to the surface because they had swum too far from the boat and it would have difficult for Theroux to swim back at that level.
The 44-year-old star, who is an avid motorcycle rider, recently shared a scenic photo (of what appears to be taken on one of his riding adventures) and a throwback pic from when he was a teen when he joined Instagram Wednesday.
