Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany Kerr welcomed their first child together on Friday — rounding out what the musician called a “rollercoaster ride” of a year.
The country rocker — who was on stage at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas this October where gunman Stephen Paddock shot and killed 58 concertgoers and injured hundreds of others — welcomed a son named Memphis exactly two months after the tragedy.
“So blessed today to see my little man come into the world. In a year that has been a rollercoaster ride, this is what its all about,” Aldean, wrote. “I cant wait to see what life has in store for this kid. Memphis Aldean… 9lb 5 oz. #mamawasarockstar.”
A pregnant Kerr shared her account of the mass shooting on Instagram just days after the incident.
“As we laid behind equipment onstage with some of our road family, bullets flying past … all I could think was, ‘I never even got to hold my baby,'” Kerr Aldean wrote.
“We were the lucky ones I can’t out into words the pain and heartache we feel for the ones who are no longer with us,” she continued.
Aldean married Kerr in 2015 and although this is their first child together, the “Dirt Road Anthem” singer has two daughters from a previous relationship with Jessica Williams — Kendyl, 10 and Keeley, 14.
Aldean appeared on “Saturday Night Live” the Saturday after the Vegas massacre where he performed Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” following the famous singer’s death.
“This week we witnessed one of the worst tragedies in American history. Like everyone I’m struggling to understand what happened that night and how to pick up the pieces and start to heal,” Aldean said before heading into the song.
“You can be sure we’re going to walk through these tough times together every step of the way. Because when America is at its best our bond and our spirit is unbreakable.”
