Iconic keyboardist Keith Emerson’s death ruled a suicide

Keith Emerson died last week from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The death of rock musician Keith Emerson was ruled a suicide with the legendary keyboardist dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said.

The Emerson, Lake and Palmer keyboardist and co-founder shot himself in the head with a .38 revolver and was also suffering from a heart condition, according to an autopsy report.

The 71-year-old body’s was found last Friday morning by his girlfriend Mari Kawaguchi when she returned to their shared home in Los Angeles.

Emerson, along with drummer Carl Palmer and singer and guitarist Greg Lake, were giants of the progressive rock era and produced seven albums before breaking up in 1979.

Palmer recently announced on Twitter he was organizing a tribute concert in June to remember his fellow bandmate.

“This I feel, is the very least I can do to honour Keith’s talent and musicianship in the best way I know,” he wrote on his website.

Kawaguchi has also taken to social media to reflect on her partner’s passing.

“This is Keith as I want to remember. He was always fun, always a good sport,” she wrote, sharing a funny photo of the composer at a Hello Kitty convention.
