A Texas couple alerted local police to what authorities are now investigating as child endangerment after they witnessed a father allegedly abusing his daughter in public.
Erika and Robert Burch were at a Walmart in Cleveland, Texas when they spotted a young girl crying “please stop. I promise I won’t do it again. Please stop!” while her father was allegedly dragging her by her hair, which was wrapped around the top of a shopping cart.
The Burchs called the police and then confronted the father, telling him to stop, to which he responded “I grew up just fine” and that the couple should mind their own business.
“People are telling me I’m wrong for stepping up for this little girl, but you can discipline a child without dragging them by the hair on their head, especially in Walmart,” Erika Burch told KTRK.
In a Facebook post that has been shared more than 31,000 times, Erika Burch explained the altercation in detail, noting that once the sergeant arrived on the scene he said the father “has the right to discipline his children.”
