A Nashville jury awarded sportscaster Erin Andrews $ 55 million in a lawsuit she filed against the hotel where nude videos of her were filmed by a stalker without her consent.
The verdict Monday comes after Andrews, 37, took the stand last week and gave emotional testimony about the effects that the video had on her personal and public lives. She had filed a suit for $ 75 million against stalker David Michael Barrett and the two companies that owned and operated the Marriott hotel in Nashville where she was staying when the video was secretly recorded in September 2008.
Andrews, a reporter with ESPN at the time, was in town covering a Vanderbilt football game. She now works for Fox Sports.
Barrett was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for stalking Andrews and shooting the video as she undressed inside her room. He then posted the clip on the web five months later.
The 4 1/2 minute clip has been watched an estimated 17 million times since, an expert testified at trial.
