A powerful explosion rocked a house in the Bronx Tuesday morning, injuring a firefighter and four cops.
Emergency responders were called to the home on W. 234th St. near Irwin Ave. for a gas leak at 6:22 a.m., officials said. After they arrived, the house exploded, collapsing its roof and sending smoke billowing over the neighborhood.
“When it exploded, 3 blocks away me and my son were in my apartment and the entire building shook,” Instagram user advocateofwordzw wrote.
Four cops injured in the blast were taken to North Central Bronx Hospital, officials said. A firefighter was also hurt. Their conditions were not immediately known.
A drug lab in the home may have sparked the explosion, police sources said.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the blast.
