New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia said he feels great after a stint in rehab for alcoholism.
CC Sabathia said Wednesday that he feels like a new man a month after he completed a stint at an alcohol rehab center.
“It’s always going to be a struggle with different things, but I feel fantastic,” Sabathia said at the annual Yankees holiday food drive.
“I think it’s just a weight coming off my shoulders. I feel good. I’m in a good mood, always.”
The Yankees flamethrower, after spending a month at Connecticut’s Silver Hill Hospital, said he was eager to get back on the diamond.
Sabathia said he’s excited to get back on the mound after rehab, saying “I feel good. I’m in a good mood, always.”
“Obviously, I’m in the early stages. I’m always going to be recovering,” Sabathia said Wednesday.
“But I have the support of my family and my organization, my team, my friends. So I feel pretty good about where I’m at and look forward to just getting back out on the field and being myself.”
Sabathia said the Yankees management has been particularly supportive.
“The Yankees have been fantastic, from Cashman to the Steinbrenners to Joe to my teammates,” Sabathia said.
“Everybody’s been 100% behind me. That feels good to have.”
Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia (l.) attends the 22nd annual Yankees Holiday Food Drive on Wednesday, fresh off his stay in a rehabilitation center.
Yankee skipper Joe Girardi said Sabathia appears on pace to regain his previous form.
“I saw him working out. He looks good,” Girardi said.
“He’s obviously excited to get back on the mound. He’s doing well and that pleases me.
“He kinda got a weight off his shoulders,” Girardi added. “Number one, I think that’s important because I don’t think anyone wants to carry a weight around and if you’re hiding something, it’s very difficult to go through life.
“Hopefully, it allows him to be more effective.”
