Victor Cruz had an MRI on Wednesday and the results were not what the Giants were hoping for.
Cruz was held out of practice once again on Thursday, as doctors didn’t clear him to rejoin the team.
“We all were [hoping he could return to practice],” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said of the wide receiver’s calf injury. “But he still has a little bit of an injury there.”
Coughlin said Cruz gets an MRI every week to gauge his progress.
Cruz worked on the side Thursday, tossing lightly during special teams drills with fellow wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle, who are both dealing with hamstring injuries. Coughlin said Beckham would not practice Thursday.
After special teams drills, Cruz walked over to the offensive drills area and took a knee to watch briefly. He then meandered over the JUGS machine and caught passes for about 10 minutes. Cruz started facing the machine, then caught balls with his shoulders facing to each side. He concluded the session by walking toward the machine, catching a pass with each step until he was no more than two feet away.
