AT&T Will Stop Exchanging Fire-Prone Samsung Galaxy Note 7s

AT&T Inc. said on Sunday that it would stop exchanging Samsung Electronics’s Galaxy Note 7 phones after reports of fires in the replacement devices.

“Based on recent reports, we’re no longer exchanging new Note 7s at this time, pending further investigation of these reported incidents,” an AT&T spokesman said in a email statement.

A Southwest Airlines flight was evacuated on the runway in Louisville, Ky., last week after a replacement model of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone began smoking inside the plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it had confirmed that a Samsung phone had caused the smoke. It said it was investigating the episode, putting pressure on Samsung, a Korean company, as it struggles with the problem, which has hurt its reputation around the globe.
