An Army sergeant and his girlfriend have been charged with killing his wife, who was found shot dead next to their 5-month-old daughter.
Maliek Kearney and Dolores Delgado face federal charges for the death of 24-year-old Karlyn Ramirez, a private first class who was stationed at Fort Meade in Maryland, last September.
Ramirez and Kearney, 35, were recently married, and their infant was found unharmed next to his mother.
The husband was stationed in South Carolina at the time, though prosecutors now believe that the pair traveled up to Maryland in order to kill Ramirez.
Prosecutors say Kearney and Delgado, 31, were living either near each other or together both in South Carolina and at his current base in Texas, the San Antonio Express News reported.
Ramirez was stationed at Fort Meade when she was killed.
Kearney’s lawyer told the paper that his client claims he is innocent, as he has done since the killing.
He and Delgado face up to life in prison if convicted.
A GoFundMe page for Ramirez and Kearney’s daughter Kattaleya, who is being raised by her mother’s relatives, has raised more than $ 2,600 as of Monday evening.
